Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) founded in 2011, headquartered at Ningde, Fujian. CATL is dedicated to providing effective solutions for global new energy applications in electric vehicles (EV) and energy storage systems (ESS) with advanced battery technology. It features R&D and manufacturing capabilities as well as core technologies of completed industrial chain about materials, cell, battery system and battery recycling.
CATL maintains an outstanding technical strength. Presently the company groups more than 100 staffs with doctor degrees, and 800 more with degrees. It invests 5% of its annual sales revenue every year in building the R&D system which including materials study, product development, engineering design, test and verification, intelligent manufacture, project management, etc. Also, it establishes Academic Committee with more than 30 experts and sets up the Research Institute with 40 million Yuan investment on more than 4500 top-class instruments to enable CATL have the comprehensive capabilities of analysis and verification in materials, cell and battery system. While CATL is insisting on independent R&D, it also keeps seeking global cooperation with technological leading companies, universities and academic institutions, and contributes to drafting over 40 industry standards. By the end of 2016, CATL owns more than 1000 patents, consisting of 600 public patents (includes more than 30 overseas patens) and 400 authorized patents.
CATL products have achieved great endorsement by the global market—strategic cooperation has been established between the company and numerous famous auto companies from overseas, i.e. from Germany and U.S. It develops power battery system for global customers in EV, HEV and PHEV applications. In addition, CATL has achieved a number of ESS projects from national and international key accounts. CATL’s sales volume has amounted to 6.7GWh with over 14 billion sales revenue in 2016.
In 2015, CATL was ed in the first batch of key enterprise that meets the Vehicle Power Battery Industry Standard Conditions (issued by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology). In the same year, its sales volume of vehicle power battery was ranked in the third place of the world. In 2016, the company successfully applied the New Energy Vehicle special project that guided by Ministry of Science and Technology (one of the three battery manufacturing enterprises) and the Smart Grid special project that guided by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (the only battery manufacturing enterprise).
With the growing of market demands and technology, CATL is going to increase continuously its R&D investment to enhance products’ qualities and meet various requirements from clients. For offering more advanced power battery products, CATL is focus on upgrading the battery energy density gradually to extend the range per charge and develop the more sophisticated fast charge technology to satisfy the end users’ quick charge requirement during long-range driving.
